If Pitchfork and Monty Python had a lovechild, it would be this album by Watkins, RSNO, and Andrews. From the first note, you're catapulted into a whimsical world of orchestral madness, where the strings dance like demented puppets and the brass section blares like a rogue elephant on the loose. Christopher Wright and Nicholas Barton's compositions are a rollercoaster of emotions, from the hauntingly beautiful to the downright bonkers. The standout track has to be "Symphony No. 42 in G Minor", where the orchestra sounds like a drunken stag do stumbling through the streets of Edinburgh. The juxtaposition of elegant melodies and chaotic cacophony is truly a sight to behold. "Concerto for Kazoo and Bagpipes" is another gem, showcasing Andrews' mastery of blending traditional Scottish instruments with a modern twist. The kazoo solos are a particular highlight, reminiscent of a cat being strangled in the most melodious way possible. Overall, Watkins / RSNO / Andrews have created a masterpiece that will have you laughing, crying, and questioning your sanity all at once. So grab your top hat, monocle, and a stiff drink, and prepare to be transported to a world where music reigns supreme and absurdity knows no bounds. Cheers to that, old chaps!
